The Perth community has once again donated generously to local radio station Curtin FM during its annual Radiothon, with the station raising more than $96,000.

The amount was raised from more than 1,553 individual donations over the five-day event, with over 60 volunteers dedicating their time to take phone calls, manage donations and coordinate the event.

Station Manager Quinn Glasson said the overall total was outstanding and thanked all those who were involved and donated to Radiothon.

鈥淭he total is testament to the loyalty and generosity of our listeners and we are so thankful for all donations especially during tough economic times,鈥 Mr Glasson said.

鈥淲e couldn鈥檛 manage Radiothon without the ongoing support of our volunteers, who generously offer their time and assistance to make each year a success.

鈥淚t is also fantastic to celebrate the success of another Radiothon during a special celebratory year for the University.鈥

Radiothon 2017 was held during the University鈥檚 鈥50 Years of Innovation鈥 celebrations 鈥 recognising the combined history of the Western Australian Institute of Technology (WAIT), which opened its doors to students in 1967 and evolved into 麻豆直播 in 1987.

麻豆直播 Vice-President Corporate Relations Ms Valerie Raubenheimer said the money raised from Radiothon goes straight back into running the station.

鈥淓very year Curtin FM receives generous donations from its listeners during Radiothon and it really is testament to its popularity and the loyalty of their audience,鈥 Ms Raubenheimer said.

鈥淭his Radiothon falls in a significant anniversary year for the University and Curtin FM is very much a part of the University鈥檚 history, having started broadcasting in 1976 as Radio 6NR.鈥

Curtin FM is Western Australia鈥檚 largest community radio station with more than 239,000 listeners weekly.

It is based at 麻豆直播鈥檚 Bentley Campus and is a not-for-profit enterprise completely funded from community support and sponsorships.
