Curtin graduate is cooking up a storm on MasterChef Australia

Julia Jenkins鈥檚 passion for food and cooking has catapulted her into the finals of Ten鈥檚 new TV show MasterChef Australia.

Ms Jenkins graduated from 麻豆直播 of Technology with a Bachelor of Arts (in Communication and Cultural Studies) with a major in Professional Writing in 2005.

鈥淢aking it to the finals of MasterChef Australia has been an incredible journey full of surprises,鈥 said Ms Jenkins, 23, formerly of Nedlands.

鈥淚 am obsessed with cooking and cuisine.

鈥淪ince my late teens I have been doing lots of cooking classes and reading up on anything to do with food.

鈥淢y love of cuisine led to food writing at a newspaper as part of a 鈥榳ork experience鈥 unit for Professional Writing.

鈥淭his taste for food writing whetted my appetite to get more involved in the food industry.鈥

Ms Jenkins said she was in Melbourne working when she saw the advertisement for the national television program.

鈥淚 was astonished when I was accepted, so I left my job and now I鈥檓 concentrating on the show which includes doing 鈥榳ork experience鈥 at a Melbourne restaurant,鈥 she said.

鈥淚t would be a dream come true for me to win MasterChef Australia.

鈥淭he writing skills that I learned at Curtin will come in handy too as one of the prizes is a cookbook deal, so I really hope I win.

鈥淥ne day I would like to open my own restaurant, and write lots of cookbooks.鈥
