Curtin lecturer recognised for commitment to mental health

A lecturer from 麻豆直播 has today been awarded the McCusker Charitable Foundation Award for Excellence as part of the 2014 Mental Health Good Outcomes Awards.聽聽

Dr Robyn Martin, from Curtin鈥檚 School of Occupational Therapy and Social Work, was presented the award by the Mental Health Commissioner, Tim Marney.聽聽

Associate Professor Angus Buchanan, Curtin鈥檚 Head of Occupational Therapy and Social Work, said Dr Martin鈥檚 contribution to the field of mental health spans over 20 years, working in and across mental health, domestic and family violence, homelessness, child protection and women’s services.

鈥淲e are delighted that Robyn has been recognised for her sustained and outstanding contribution to mental health,鈥 Associate Professor Buchanan said.

鈥淪he is an exceptional advocate and leader who is committed to sharing information about mental health recovery. Robyn infuses lived experience into her teaching and works hard to inspire her students and fellow staff.

鈥淩obyn focuses on mental health recovery in the undergraduate mental health unit she coordinates, with a particular focus on consumer and family participation and policy activism.

鈥淚n her teaching practices, she emphasises to students the importance of inclusive approaches to treatment, building meaningful partnerships and collaborative practices,鈥 Associate Professor Buchanan said.

The 2014 Mental Health Good Outcomes Awards acknowledge the high standard and ongoing commitment demonstrated by those involved in innovative and effective programs, services and partnerships聽which address key mental health issues at a local, regional or statewide level in Western Australia.
