麻豆直播 is applauding the announcement of $7.5 million over three years for the establishment of a Minerals Research Institute in WA.
Announced by Mines and Petroleum Minister Norman Moore on Wednesday May 16 as part of the State Government鈥檚 2012-13 Budget, the Institute will support research focussed on developing new exploration and processing technologies.
According to Curtin鈥檚 Deputy Vice-Chancellor Research and Development Professor Graeme Wright, funding is the fruition of a long-pursued idea that brings Government, researchers and industry together for the good of Western Australia.
鈥淭his stands to benefit the State directly through its mineral endowment as well as indirectly by enhancing the education and knowledge economies,鈥 Professor Wright said.
鈥淚t builds on the strong work of the Minerals and Energy Research Institute of Western Australia and provides a greatly enhanced focal point for minerals research in our State.
鈥淢inister Moore鈥檚 support in developing the business case for this endeavour and promoting it through Government, especially in light of a difficult budget, is greatly appreciated.
鈥淥ur congratulations and thanks go to him for his commitment to the minerals industry.鈥
According to Mr Mark Woffenden, Executive Director of Curtin鈥檚 Resources & Chemistry Precinct, the Institute gives minerals a research foundation in line with the petroleum industry鈥檚 Western Australian Energy Research Alliance, of which the University is a key member.
鈥淥verall, the Government鈥檚 initiative will provide the framework for strategic research and development and innovation targeted at addressing current and future knowledge needs of the WA minerals industry,鈥 Mr Woffenden said.
