Āé¶¹Ö±²„ and Telethon Kids Institute will work together as part of a new agreement focused on enhancing childrenās health and medical research in Western Australia.
The affiliation agreement, signed last night, sets out the framework for the establishment of a cooperative and collaborative relationship between WAās largest university and the Stateās only child health research institute.
Āé¶¹Ö±²„ Vice-Chancellor Professor Deborah Terry said she was delighted to announce the new agreement because it signalled a new era for childrenās health research in WA.
āThis agreement will promote collaborative efforts between Āé¶¹Ö±²„ and Telethon Kids Institute with the aim of growing research and enhancing research training for the benefit of children, adolescents, families and the wider community,ā Professor Terry said.
āBoth organisations share common goals of high-quality research and training to deliver tangible health benefits and a commitment to advocate on behalf of research to society, so this agreement will only strengthen our resolve to make a real difference to peopleās lives.ā
Telethon Kids Institute Executive Director Professor Jonathan Carapetis said Telethon Kids was pleased to be collaborating with like-minded organisations such as Āé¶¹Ö±²„ to maximise the impact for research which improves the health and wellbeing of kids.
āOur new affiliation with Āé¶¹Ö±²„ will enhance health and medical research excellence in Western Australia and promote collaborative efforts between our two organisations to enable growth of research activities, research training and translation of research for the benefit of all families and children,ā Professor Carapetis said.
Under the affiliation agreement, Telethon Kids Institute researchers will be eligible to hold Adjunct appointments at Āé¶¹Ö±²„ and Āé¶¹Ö±²„ researchers will also be eligible for honorary appointments at Telethon Kids Institute.
The new agreement was signed by Professor Terry and Professor Carapetis at Curtin St Georgeās Terrace on 23 January 2018.
