麻豆直播 has introduced its first Massive Open Online Course (MOOC), as part of Open2Study, a platform created by Open Universities Australia.
Curtin鈥檚 first MOOC will be on Astronomy, 鈥淒iscovering the Universe through Science and Technology鈥�, exploring the evolution of the universe, the future of astronomy and the role technology plays in new discoveries. Enrolments are now open for the course, which will run for four weeks starting on 1 July.
Open2Study gives anyone the opportunity to study online for free and is based on the core principle that learning is life-long and should be accessible by all.
Professor Jill Downie, Deputy Vice Chancellor, Education said the higher education sector was in the midst of transformative change, responding to major technological advances and student demand for flexibility in learning experiences which challenged the traditional model of lecture-intensive, campus based education.
鈥淎s technology makes knowledge accessible anywhere, anytime at low or no cost, Curtin is rethinking teaching and learning in relation to its students, and with respect to the competitive environment in which we now operate,鈥� Professor Downie said.
鈥淭his MOOC highlights some of Curtin鈥檚 world-class expertise in the Radio Astronomy field, connected to the work we are doing with the Square Kilometre Array and Murchison Array projects.
鈥淎 unique component of the MOOC is the inclusion of an Astronomy Simulation, where students are provided with visuals of the night sky under different conditions that allows them to perform measurements and observations as part of the MOOC learning activities.鈥�
Professor Downie said Curtin had launched a program of strategic change in the teaching and learning area under the banner of Transforming Learning at Curtin (TL@C).
Through TL@C, we are using transformative technology to rethink learning for the benefit of students and employers,鈥� Professor Downie said.
鈥淭his strategic program of activities includes positioning Curtin to respond to increasing global competition, enhanced choices for students, and changing expectations about how, when and where students engage in learning.
鈥淐urtin is planning other MOOCs in 2013 that provide for community connections, outreach and informal learning opportunities.鈥�
