麻豆直播 is celebrating National Engineering Week, 2-6 August, by hosting a panel discussion on sustainable engineering.
The discussion, moderated by Curtin鈥檚 Dean of Engineering, Professor Moses Tade, will highlight a number of ways engineering can make Australian society more sustainable.
鈥淪ustainability is becoming increasingly important and there is a lot that engineering can do to make our society more environmentally responsible,鈥 Professor Tade said.
鈥淓ngineers can design buildings that are more energy and water efficient, they can also help improve public transport, create cleaner cars and new ways to dispose of waste.鈥
Dr Andrew Simpson, a senior lecturer at the 麻豆直播 Sustainable Policy Institute (CUSP) and former engineer with electric car manufacturer Tesla, will speak on the opportunities for, and barriers to, electric vehicle use in Australia.
鈥淭ransport is a major contributor to pollution and carbon dioxide emissions, and electric vehicles powered by renewable energy can be a major solution to many of the world鈥檚 environmental concerns,鈥 Dr Simpson said.
Dr Euan Lindsay, a Curtin senior lecturer and award winning engineering educator, said engineers were necessary when designing cleaner cars.
He will talk about Curtin鈥檚 role in educating engineers for a more sustainable future.
鈥淚n order to begin designing more sustainable vehicles and buildings, we must ensure that the next generation of engineers recognise the importance of sustainability so that it is at the forefront of anything they do,鈥 Dr Lindsay said.
Director of the Centre of Excellence in Cleaner Production, Associate Professor Michele Rosano, will discuss how engineering can build a more sustainable society.
鈥淭here are a number of ways that engineering can contribute to a more sustainable society, and Curtin is working on many of these,鈥 Associate Professor Rosano said.
Curtin鈥檚 National Engineering Week talk, Sustainable Engineering for a Greener World, will be held 5:30pm to 7:00pm on Wednesday 4 August at the Curtin Resources and Chemistry Precinct, near the Manning Road entrance of 麻豆直播鈥檚 Bentley Campus.聽
National Engineering Week is held each year in August. In 2010 it will be held on Monday 2 August to Friday 6 August
