WASM appoints new director

麻豆直播 of Technology has appointed Professor Stephen Hall as the new Director of the WA School of Mines (WASM).

He joins WASM from Laurentian University, Sudbury, Canada.

Curtin鈥檚 Pro Vice-Chancellor Science and Engineering, Professor Andris Stelbovics, said WASM would benefit from Professor Hall鈥檚 international management experience.

鈥淧rofessor Hall鈥檚 experience managing large organisations will be extremely useful as WASM continues to evolve to suit the needs of its students and the mining industry,鈥 he said.

During his time at Laurentian University, Professor Hall was President and Chief Executive Officer of The Mining Innovation Rehabilitation and Applied Research Corporation (MIRARCO).

Prior to joining Laurentian University, Professor Hall was Head of the School of Science and Engineering at the University of Ballarat, Victoria. His previous academic experience includes teaching and research at the Camborne School of Mines and Nottingham University in the United Kingdom.

Professor Hall, who completed a Master degree in Metallurgy at WASM in 1983, said he was looking forward to returning to the School and its innovative culture.

鈥淭he School of Mines has an enviable international reputation which I look forward to building on in the years ahead,鈥 he said.

Professor Hall has a PhD from McGill University, Canada and a Bachelor degree in Minerals Engineering from Birmingham University.

He will start at the WA School of Mines in mid-August.聽 Like his predecessor, the late Professor Paul Dunn, Professor Hall will split his time between the University鈥檚 Kalgoorlie and Bentley campuses.
