Dianella resident, Andrew Foti has been singled out as the most promising student from 麻豆直播 of Technology鈥檚 Information Systems Student Experience Program with the Australian Computer Society WA Branch Award.
Curtin鈥檚 Program was developed as a response to high industry demand and offers exceptional Year 12 students the opportunity to participate in a customised, industry-based program and gain a deeper conceptual understanding of Information Systems (IS) principles and their applicability in the business environment.
The Chisholm Catholic College student said he found the Program a very challenging and rewarding learning experience and was honoured to be recognised for his hard work.
鈥淚 was thrilled to receive the award and I really didn鈥檛 expect it. It was elating just to finish the course but to take away the award was an added bonus,鈥� Andrew said.
鈥淭he Program was an unparalleled learning experience and it gave me a taste of university life. I have also improved my ability to think critically, work in teams and communicate more effectively.鈥�
Already an avid fan of computers, gaming and technology, Andrew said that the Program sounded exactly like the perfect introduction to what he wanted to do after finishing high school.
鈥淚t was a great to meet new people and study something that I actually liked doing. Both the tutors and the whole class were great to work with,鈥� Andrew said.
Andrew has plans to attend Curtin next year and urges more Year 12鈥檚 to consider the IS Experience Program and further their studies at university.
鈥淭he Program has really opened my eyes to the myriad of opportunities in the industry, and gave me an insight into how IT can be used to solve business problems. We were given the opportunity to visit Bunnings and discover how IT helps logistics integration,鈥� Andrew said.
鈥淭here is no doubt that we live in a technological world and it affects every aspect of our lives. There is great demand for skilled workers in this area and an abundance of opportunities with high starting salaries.鈥�
Curtin鈥檚 IS Program requires students to attend a three-hour seminar one night a week and students who successfully complete the unit will receive 25 credit points when they enrol at Curtin in the first year of study towards a Bachelor of Commerce Degree.
To be eligible for the Program students must have at least a 鈥楤鈥� average in Year 11 information systems, information technology or computing-based subjects.
