What does AWOL status mean?

UPDATED 13 FEB 2026 | 7:50AM
Your course status will be changed to absent without leave (AWOL) if you do not enrol in units for a study period without an approved leave of absence. This means you are no longer considered to be a current student at Â鶹ֱ²¥.
Being set to AWOL status removes your access to most student systems, including OASIS functions such as Blackboard, eStudent and. You will also lose access to your Curtin student email account. Please note that this access cannot be restored, even temporarily.

If you are an international student on a subclass 500 visa, AWOL-status will also result in the cancellation of your Confirmation of Enrolment (CoE). It is recommended that you liaise with the Australian Government Department of Home Affairs to determine your options.

If you wish to continue with your degree in the future, you must submit a new application for your course. If your application is successful and you are admitted back into the same course, your tuition fees will be charged according to the fee structure in place at the time of your new application. International student applicants will be subjected to the Genuine Student (GS) assessment if they wish to apply and continue their studies at Curtin.

Further information can be found in the Admission and Enrolment Manual. If you need more advice, please contact Curtin Connect
